I’ve been trying to use Apple’s Disk Utility’s “Repair Disk” function in OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion on my WD 3TB MyBook Essential 3.0, but I keep getting the error, “Partition map repair failed while adjusting structures to fit current whole disk size.” I tried reformatting the disk using Disk Utility’s “Erase” with Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and GUID Partition Table, but I still get the error afterwards.
After doing a little research online, I see that there are other people reporting this problem, which seems isolated to Mountain Lion, but I don’t see any reasonable solutions to the problem. Is this something that needs to be addressed by Apple or by Western Digital? People seem to be reporting the problem using other drive brands.
