Hello all - What software do i need to keep the external drive from going to sleep. I have an Apple Tv devie with teh computer app to stream all the content, and when the drive goes to sleep it ejects and then I can;t see my movies and tv shows.
I have changed settings on my mac mini for hard drive never to go to sleep etc.
I think there is a setting within the drive itself i need to change, help!
@mpkline07 Sounds like you may have a 22TB HDD. Maybe, SanDisk Professional which is serviced and supported by Western Digital . HDD forums are located here https://community.wd.com/
Hi @mpkline07,
You’re right — some external drives have their own built-in sleep timers. You can’t always control it from Mac settings alone. If it’s a SanDisk or WD drive, you can use WD Drive Utilities or SanDisk Dashboard software to adjust or disable the sleep timer (if supported).
If your drive doesn’t support changing sleep settings, a workaround is to install a small tool like Keep Drive Spinning on your Mac, which keeps sending small “keep-alive” signals to prevent sleep.
