Hello im from portugal, i have one external HD WD MY BOOK ELITE 1G, last days my usb connection form the HD EXTRENAL was broken because my son . Weel i decide open the case and take out the HARD DISK, i put the hard disk on my computer by cable sata normaly. Well in bios de HARD DISK is reconized but in windows 7 no apear the unit “like C: or other” in propreities of computer its apear but in drives no. Well o try to open de with one program and create a NTFS NOT FORMTED the drive bt now the drv appeabut tell me he have 950Gigas its srange i have only free space 45Gigas any friend can hl me pleae wh to recover the data on disk please. Thaks a lot
If you were in the middle of copying any data, then it’s possible that the drive partition or the data got corrupted when your son pulled the cable out. You could search for data recovery software that may repair the partition and allow you to get your data. Otherwise, you need to delete the partition, and repartition and format the drive to get it to read correctly. However, that will only work if the drive shows up in Disk Management.
Another thing to say is that , if you opened the enclosure of the drive then the warranty on it , is ‘‘VOIDED’’
as Bill said you could go to disk management and if the drive is showing in there you can always recover your
data , either using a data recovery company , or by yourself using a Data recovery software that can extract the files for you
