I bought a new MyBook Essential 2 TB external drive yesterday. When I registered it with WD it shows up in their records as a Caviar Green 2 TB SATA Hard Drive. What to do? I am worried if I need warranty service this will screw me up. I am figuring that the drive listed might be what is in the MyBook and that’s causing the problem. Idea’s of what to do next?
Don’t know how this happened in the automatic registration process, but I was able to go back and register my MyBook as a new registration with the numbers off the back of the MyBook, and now we’re cool.
I registered mine manually input the SN and went ok. I would assume if you entered a wrong number that would of done it but you stated you did it automatically, so that may of been the way this happened, might of been linked to the wrong product or crossed paths .
Might be more work but to enter SN serial numbers manually is the best way to go
I believe that if you “Register Automatically” it doesn’t read the S/N of the enclosure, but merely of the drive within (as you surmised, Dana).
I don’t know whether this is an oversight, or whether the S/N of the enclosure is not encoded anywhere where it can be read by the registration utility.
