My Book suddenly appears as a CD drive

My Book appears as an empty CD drive. When I look at properties, the hardware list shows My Book.

I would appreciate any insights before I crack the case and try to mount the drive.

I have seen CD emulators for USB sticks in the distant past, but it does suggest some problems with the controller logic

Similar question, usually means the mybook has become corrupt.
