My WD Elements 2TB SSD will only take 31 gb of data. Identical twin is fine

Can anyone give me any suggestions or is this just a defective drive? About a year old and i have checked out cables, ports etc and all work fine as does an identical SSD purchsed at the same time. Quite new Lenove laptop, running Win 11.

I have checked and worked on the drive. The issue was the USB ESD partition which I was able to remove and I think my problem is solved. Thank you for your response and help.

@afinch7 ,

If your WD Elements 2TB SSD is only accepting 31GB of data while its identical twin functions perfectly, it may be due to partitioning issues, improper formatting, or a firmware glitch. This guide will help you resolve the problem.

Start by checking the formatting of the SSD. An incorrectly formatted drive may limit its capacity. Connect the SSD to your computer, navigate to “Disk Management” (Windows) or “Disk Utility” (Mac), and verify the file system. For optimal performance, use NTFS for Windows or exFAT for cross-platform compatibility. If formatting is the issue, back up the data and reformat the drive.

Inspect the partitions as well. On Windows, open “Disk Management” and check if the drive is partitioned correctly. Delete and recreate partitions to utilize the full 2TB capacity. For Mac users, use “Disk Utility” to adjust the partition size.

Additionally, visit the Western Digital Support Page to check for firmware updates for your SSD. Updated firmware can often resolve storage or performance issues.

If these steps fail, try connecting the SSD to another computer to rule out system-specific problems. For further diagnostics, download and run WD Drive Utilities software.

If the problem persists, the drive may require replacement. Contact WD support for assistance or warranty claims through their official website.
