My Passport Ultra 2TB "Uninitialized" in OSX

I’ve had this external hard drive for about 2 years now. It’s formatted for both Mac and PC use. But a few days ago I plugged it into a new Airport Time Capsule router I recently bought and it suddenly became unrecognizable while I was trying to transfer files from the external drive to the Time Capsule.

The disk still runs because I can feel it vibrating and the light is solid white. But it’s also unrecognizable when I plug it directly into my macbook (El Capitan). I’ve replaced the cable (no difference) and also run the disk utility on it. Most of the time Disk Utility doesn’t even read the drive. But a couple times it has come up. I’ve attached a screenshot of what it looks like. It allows me to run first aid, but then it just says “operation successful” and there’s no change to the drive.

I’ve also tried plugging it into a PC. The drive isn’t recognized, but it will pop up under “devices” with a little icon that says it requires troubleshooting. When I run the troubleshooting program it says the computer requires a driver. But all attempts to install the driver have been unsuccessful.

Is this thing salvageable?

Hi,

How is the drive showing under disk management on the Windows PC?

It’s not even showing up in Disk Management. I also downloaded WD Drive Utilities, and the drive itself is recognized, but it says “no volumes.”

I’m starting to think this thing is a paper weight now. Any recommendations for data recovery software? It’s still under warranty, but I don’t have the receipt.

I have the same problem with my 1TB passport.
