I see there was a topic much like this one already created, but it seems that replying to that thread has been disabled. I just want to add my name to the list of people who are finding the WD My Passport Pro drive unusable for pro audio because of its loud whirring fan noise. The fan seems to rev up every 20-30 minutes or so and doesn’t quiet down for a good 5 minutes, which means I’ve had to put recording sessions on hold in the meantime. In our studio we have tons of electronic equipment, a full analog console board, two pairs of speaker monitors, two audio interfaces, etc. yet their combined noise doesn’t come close to the noise created by this hard drive’s fan alone. Needless to say, unless this problem can be resolved I’ll be sending it back and looking for a different external drive.
