Help needed! Is this noise normal ? WD MyPassport Ultra 2TB

I just brought a brand new WD My Passport Ultra 2 TB today.

After formated it to be MAC OS Entended journaled Enscripted

I partitioned it to be for store data and for backup.

After load 1.2 TB of data in to it. Now i start “notice” a nasty noise.

It sound like when normal hdd seek or write data, except it 200% louder, 300% more frequent.

So I use WD bundle sorftware to test, for a SMART and QuickDriveTest the result is pass. Then i use BlackMagic to test the speed, the result is 60 MB/s and 70 MB/s in write and read accordingly.

All seem fine, but the sound really worry me. It remembrance me of my failed HDD in the past.

So i record it with my iphone point blank to the HDD. Here is the result.

I sound like a grinding combine with a random “dudd” sound. Here is it.

I would apreciate for any recommendation. Thank you in advance.

Hello,

I would say that this drives are almost noiseless. I could not hear anything from that recording but if you feel the drive is emitting a strange noise then I recommend that you get it replaced.

How to tell if the noise or sound the drive is making is normal

whats the difference wd my passport air for mac and the wd my passport edge for mac, they look the same
