My Passport 500 3.0 won't work anymore

Hi,

I have been using My Passport 500GB USB 3.0 for the past one and a half years and it has been working fine all along. But suddenly last week, it decided to stop working as in, no detection, no LED light, no sound, no vibration whatsoever. I have even tried different cables and computers but to no avail.

I am assuming that the connector on the PCB’s gone bust or the PCB itself. If it’s the entire device, then I am doomed.

This is what I thought I should do

  • Shift the platter to an exact HDD

  • Replace the connector by soldering on a new one.

But before all this, your opinion.

Thank you for your time.

Hi, I would send a message to  fzabkar, he is the expert on this type of stuff.

Thank you for the idea. Message is already sent.

No prob, just in case what model do you have? If your model supports hardware encryption I think that replacing the PCB will only work to make that hard drive work again, but not to recover your data. Just in case, have you tried checking on the disk management window to see if the passport is recognized there? Check the link below for the steps.

I have a WD Passport 500GB USB 3.0. I don’t think it has a replaceable PCB.

I did check with the disk manager but it won’t show there.
