My Book Thunder Duo - no thunderbolt port on new Mac

Hi all, happily using a My Book Thunderbolt Duo to store my Lightroom photo library for many years but my new Mac does not have a Thunderbolt port. I bought a Thunderbolt to Lightning adaptor cable and plugged it in and but my new computer doesn’t see my Thunderbolt Duo. I naively thought it would be as easy as that. But its seems it must be Thunderbolt cable or nothing? I’m currently accessing my photo library via networking to my old computer but this seems like a temporary solution as I can’t fit two machines on one desk…

Anything I can do to connect my Thunderbolt Duo to the new Mac or am I up for a new external hard drive system?

I was under the impression that my book Duo was no longer supported and therefore I couldn’t open a support case. I will try though thank you!
