I have a SUPER old WD MyBook Home edition that I recently found. I wanted to move my photos off this device, but I can’t seem to have it recognized. This old HD was from the Windows7/Vista era, and now I have a Win10 Professional 64Bit laptop. My machine does not recognize this drive. Any suggestions? I was thinking of taking it to a computer store for help… Help please.
There can be various reasons for an HDD to become unresponsive. Reconnecting the HDD won’t help in most of cases. The HDD remains visible and may be detected by the system if you connect it to another PC, but it doesn’t respond.
Below are few possible reasons for HDD being unresponsive:
- A Lot of bad sectors
- Infected File (Virus or Malware)
- Driver issue
- Mechanical failure
You can try the below options to resolve the issue:
- Run CHKDSK
- Use an Antivirus & Anti-Malware tool
- Re-install the drivers
Further, I suggest you check out the below blog to know the possible solutions for this issue: https://www.stellarinfo.com/blog/how-to-fix-not-responding-hard-drive/
Hope this will help.
