My 2tb my book essential USB 3.0 becomes un-accessible after 25 min (you can see the drive and folders but they are empty)… I have uninstalled and reinstalled the smartware, updated the firmware, unchecked the USB sleep in device manager, and turned off all the settings to go to sleep for the comp. When trying to eject I get an error for device in use via a program. The only way to access this drive is to power cycle (unplug/plug in USB or hold power button on drive)… I have tried both USB 3.0 ports on my laptop to no avail… I have also tried changing the “policy” on the external drive to enable write cache (better performance) to no avail…
I went thru the comp settings w/ Dell (via remote access on the phone) and the comp and USB ports are correct (never sleep)… The drive is set to never sleep and I do not have auto-backup or synch functions for the drive on. I am also using the SES encryption software (which is unlocked when the drive is first turned on).
My OS is Win 7 64 bit Ultimate on an alienware m17x laptop… My old laptop will not run the drive (XP SP2 on a 5150 Dell) and I purchased this drive specifically for my current comp so making it work on another comp is irrelevant…
Even keeping a window or folder open on the drive does not prevent this issue… WD seems to be out of ideas past the reinstall software/update firmware suggestion…
Ideas/thoughts greatly appreciated…
