My hard drive (My Book 8TB) stops working when my computer is left idle, even if for just a few minutes. When I go back to my computer after having left my external drive connected, it has become frozen and it can’t even be ejected. Either Disk Utilities or WD Drive Utilities are useless. The only solution I’ve found is forcing ejection and then repairing it with WD Drive Utilities, but I understand that this could end up damaging the disk. Can you please tell me how can I solve this issue? I don’t want to repair my drive every day.
Hello,
Check the Energy saver settings from your Mac and turn off the “Put hard disks to sleep when possible” option.
Thank you, G_Rayn, but that option was already turned off.
I have turned off “Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off”.
I have “Put hard disks to sleep when possible” on. Also “Wake for Network access” is on.
Regarding G_Rayn’s suggestion: You could try turning the option he refers to ‘on’ instead. Do a restart, then go back into System Prefs and turn it ‘off’ again. Or reboot into Safe Mode. Then restart normally again.
Do you have ‘Enable Power nap’ enabled?
