My Book 3 on mac book pro doesn't seem to work

I’ve plugged in my new My Book 3 into my mac book pro. The only things that show up when I open it are 3 folders: extras, locale, user manuals. There is no smartware to install.

How do I install it and where can I download the software (any links?)

You can check the download section on the WD support website and download the latest software versions, here is a link to the download section:

http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?level1=1&lang=en

You should be able to locate the model of your unit and get the latest software for it.
