Missing files on My Passport Air when connect to PC windows 10

I’m missing files on My Passport Air when connect to PC windows 10. I can see that the device is connected to PC. Files were there when connected to Mac using passport air, now can’t access them. What do I need to do to see them. I am able to unlock the external.

Hello rhondas,

Are you getting any error while accessing the files? Are you even able to see the files/folders?

No, not getting any errors, not able to see the file, but thinking it might be that it is formatted to Mac since I was using it on my Mac and it works great there. Or maybe it’s not working because it is Windows 10, any advice would be appreciated.
thanks

Hi rhondas,

So if you were using this in mac before and now trying to access the files in windows, please make sure that the drive is formatted in exFAT in order to use in both OS(Windows and Mac). Before formatting the drive, create a backup of the data which is in the drive because formatting is a data destructive process.

I have the data backed up on another WD book, but I believe I have the same issue with that backup as well as I’m not able to detect that hard drive on this new PC and I’ve use it on a Mac too. I’m in a dilemma because the photo images that are on the hard drive are used in a software program that I access on my Mac through a Virtual Machine because the software is a pc based program that I run on the Windows operating system on my Mac. So if I were to purchase a new external to get the images off the software program on my Mac I would run into the same problem, correct? I really appreciate your help in walking me through this process, it is very confusing to me. Thanks
