LifeGuard Diagnostics is hung and won't Cancel

It’s stuck at 853872895 of 1953525167 and won’t Cancel. The Elapsed Time is increasing along with Time Remaining.
Will I cause damage if I kill the process?
The drive is connected via SATA to USB adapter. What about Ejecting (same question)?

I recommend you leave it for a couple more hours. Disconnecting the drive may cause some damage.
