I have a 2TB WD Elements with many files and folders on it. Mostly jpeg and tif with a number of PDF.
The files and folders are all compressed (zip); apparently that was a default setting because it’s not something I would have chosen deliberately. They have been collected into 289 zip folders, numbered in sequence with no identifying names.
THE PROBLEM:
When I open the drive, to find each file or folder I have to follow this path:
backup set > backup files > backup files [number] > C > Users > [user name] > desktop > desktop folders > folder [a] > folder [b ]> folder [c] > [target file].
Needless to say, this makes locating an individual file extremely time-consuming, since there are 289 possible places to look, each requiring following the long path described above.
There must be an easy way to get an overview of what’s there, but I have yet to figure it out. (On my new Passport it’s easy, but I have a lot of essential files on the older Elements and still have to use it on occasion to access something.)
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Hello.
Based on the information you have provided it looks like you have used a backup software to backup your files. This is the reason why the files and folders are in .Zip format. My recommendation is to try to find out the name of the backup software and try to retrieve the files using that software. The WD Elements drive does not include a WD backup software, this means you probably used a 3rd party backup software.
" looks like you have used a backup software to backup your files"
Maybe you think it looks like that, but I have never downloaded nor installed any 3rd backup software in my life.
The only backup I used was the 30-day trial of WD backup.
