If I uninstall software, will my drive be inaccessible?

I don’t have my Passport drive permanently connected to my PC, because I don’t need to update my files.  

However the software keeps running and as I have a slow PC, it’s driving me batty.

If I uninstall the WD software, will that mean I can’t access my Passport when I need it?

Hi the only reason to have the WD software installed is if you are going to use there backup feature. If you are just going to copy and paste files to the external drive you don’t need the software . If it was backed up using the WD software you would have to restore the files to a location, remove all WD software then format the external drive. Then copy and paste you data back to the drive. If you have not used the WD software to backup try stopping the service and removing the auto start from Msconfig.
