How to use Passport Ultra just to manually back up files

I don’t want to use the included software to determine what to back up or do any automatic backups.  I want to use my Passport Ultra the same way I do a flash drive.

I have plugged in the Passport Ultra and I am able to move files.  My question has to do with whether there are any set up steps I should be going through that does other things that I might want to do down the road?

Make sure that the passport isn’t the only copy of the files. To many people move their files to an external drive and think that only copy is a backup.
