How to get rid of Password on WD Passport I know password

First all this is the biggest piece of **bleep** deiviece I have bought for a computer. So unuser friendly The fact that there is a forum for an portable hard drive says it all

How do I get rid of password protection? I need to do this because the smucks at WD  make it so only the administrator can access the drive.

chipster314,

You can permanently remove password protection (Until a new password is created) using either WD SmartWare or WD Security depending on the generation of your unit.

If your unit uses WD SmartWare for security, then please open WD SmartWare and unlock your drive. The option will be located under Settings> Drive Settings> Security, It will ask you for your current password, and then it will give you an option named “Remove Security”.

If your unit uses WD Security, then please open WD Security and unlock your drive. The option to remove security will become available after this.

You’re new to the internet, aren’t you? Every single product ever made by every large-scale company has a forum for their products.

No just very frustrated at such a simple task. I did not see that option when opening the security login. Maybe my anger put some blind folders on…
My computer doesn’t ask for password because it remembered that this computer has access, so it just excited WD unlock screen.

I just erased the drive and started over. Not going to bother with password because the drive is useless on any other computer if not logged in as administrator.

Another note is the USB cable strictly WD or is this cable easily purchased?

Nope, it’s called micro USB 3.0 and not branded to WD, but WD will tell you to use short cables if it’s a passport.

Does the back up always take a long time. OVer 24 hours for 350GB. was going to use Sync Toy but it will not back up Librairies folder, you have to create Sync pair for all sub folder undr Librairies

See if Cobian Backup suits your needs. It is freeware.
