~~ hey -- quickie Question as I am a newbie!

I am intend to buy 1  MyBOOK  –  I do not have 200 USD spare cash yet, so I intend to put it in my shopping list

SAN STORAGE idea is great, take a snapshot of the computer, then restore it at any time

I only got 1 xp notebook that is 80G in total,  mostly [edited]

sometime, I do some coding too

is there any  software (free is better than priced)  and is there a way to use the EXTERNAL western digital hard disk

to be  as SAN device as backup

I can’t think of a scenario

e.g.  when I am doing google-ing, the chrome crash

e.g.  when I am write 1 gmail (compose), the computer crash

e.g.  when I am doing a  word / excel, the computer crash

e.g.  my computer hard disk is about 8 years old,  fujitsu got amazing hardware and the HDD is still running smoothly (no signs , no symptoms that it would fail)

should I do a SAN  snapshot of just 1 running computer

e.g.  could I put a virtual desktop , VM on the external hard disc

so that  I can install some download-com software for 1 day only

I don’t do a lot of pirate or illegal software download myself – I buy it for real e.g. I bough some download.com software e.g. I got office for my xp – those are genuine software

so  what can I do with an  MYBOOK external hard disk

1  T  memory enough to store my C drive 70 times already, so it is HUGE in size

and is the  transformer good,  the box of  MYBOOK look very heavy, maybe they use stupid  made in china  transformer instead of a made in japan transformer

what is the  voltage and polarity of the transformer??  I may replace it

I think my fujitsu also got fireware 400 output, should I use  USB or  firewire for data transfer

firewire to computer, and USB to my flat screen LED tv – that is my THOUGHT on how to connect it (at the same time)

So, in the end what is your real question.:stuck_out_tongue:

my real question

— should I purchase myBOOK in 4 to 6 weeks time

after I read all that – I am thinking to buy a huge  thumb drive – solid state memory  instead

– those don’t have much issue except   encrption – but  let assume

32G byte –  I could put 32 **bleep** or 2 to 3 ghost image

it is not as good as  T byte external hard disc

but  since myBOOK can’t feed on USB as power source, and those additional software present more problems (people stuck in this community forum as they can’t figure out how to retrieve data ONCE their access get lost – or the computer don’t recognise it is an EXTERNAL hard disk drive)  and  WB is selling re-condition myBOOK  as it does go wrong (otherwise , they can’t get the  old USED myBOOK)

so my question is still, I got  DVD burner for my LIFEBOOK

should I get  mybook,  a  fujitsu external 0.5T hard drive that does not require transformer , or a huge THUMB drive

or in case that mybook cause problem , should I back up important ghost and folder data on  OPTICAL dvd(s) data storage or how can I prevent ONCE mybook can’t be recognise, some access problem  , can I do anything before that ?!!

I am still reading this forum, to decide whether I should get  mybook,  as  I don’t believe in other brand, like BUFFALO

other external brandname harddisk choice could be

– LACIE – also sold in APPLE store (kind of approve  by apple)

SEAGATE   http://www.seagate.com/www/en-au/?countrycode=NZ&countryName=NZ&newRole=All_NZ,All_ANZ,All_APAC&regionCode=APAC&subregionCode=ANZ

etc  – I want some  myBOOK user  to SUGGEST me a good  Choice – for both my TV miedai (i.e. **bleep**) and  ghost images (2 to 4 DVD big i.e. 5G to 15G big  of the ghost of my lifebook notebook computer)

  http://www.seagate.com/www/en-au/products/external/freeagent/portable-drive/

another main question

DO I REALLY NEED  encryption with my external hard drive

those vv vv vv links  got  vertical plugging (like a shaver) but  got encryption too – could it be a bad idea for me ? (tv got to be able to read the **bleep** files)

– I don’t think my new TV set (LG – with LED , can read real, most wmv, most avi etc and JPEG etc)  got  encryption  DEcrypt function, so is it SAFTER for me to get a storage that don’t have those fancy software that encrypt storage, otherwise, I won’t able to read any video / photo stuff  with my new TV set – that is the main rationale for me to DIGITALISE my media content by buying an external hard disk

I think he’s just a troll he posts a lot of this rabling stuff on a lot of posts.
