I brought a 500GB WB Mobile Storage (2.5) which I reformated it with my Disk utility on my Mac. It worked fine for few weeks and then, one day it said ‘error’.
Now it can only be detect by Disk Utility (it cannot be mounted).
I tried to fixed it with Mac Disk Utility. However, both Verify Disk and Repair Disk fail because :
“The underlying task reported failure on exit”
Unable to read FAT (input/output error)
1 non HFS volume checked
Later I tried to fix it with a window PC but no luck either.
After searching this forum, I see am not along with this problem.
Try these:
You need to do this on windows PC machine:
-Download the windows firmware updater for your Passport drive, pick the one matched what you have.
http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?level1=2&lang=en
-Run the firmware updater on the windows PC.
-Unplug the Passport drive after the firmware updater finished, re-plug it.
-Check the Passport drive from Disk Management, to see if it recognize, if yes, go ahead format it with NTFS file system.
If not , try it on the Mac computer.
If nothing is better, then the Passport drive is physically defected.
If it is still under warranty, contact WD tech support to get it replace.
Well, thank you.
The thing is I want to get my DATA back before I format it.
