Help with a broken micro usb port on MyBook Home Edition

Hello,

I have a Western Digital MyBook Home Edition 750GB External Hard Drive and the prongs inside the Micro USB port on the back have been twisted to the point that now when plugged in my drive is not recognized unless I plug it in with a FireWire cable

My question is that would something along the lines of FireWire to USB adaptor work so that I could plug the FireWire end into my HDD and the USB end into my PC/Wii/etc.

Here is a product I have been looking at

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SIMA-USB-2-0-Multi-Cable-Firewire-400-4-Length-model-SUO-200-/170761173026#vi-content

I am just curious if this will do what I am wanting

You can see “THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT TRANSFER BETWEEN USB AND FIREWIRE” on the description. USB and Firewire have different transfer rates and protocol’s, so just a converter cable wont work. If the my book is under warranty just replace it or if your computer doesn’t have a firewire port you can buy a firewire expansion card.

Nope…

Just replace the enclosure.  Here’s the cheapest one I could find.
