HELP! My Passport Ultra windows > mac > Password protection?

Hi,

Thank you in advance for reading my question and give me a solution.

I have bought a WD ULTRA PASSPORT automatically formatted for windows.

I have to back up data on it + read/write from MAC & WINDOWS operating systems.

I would like to reformat with Disk Utility the Hard-drive to make it readable on PC & MAC
but I would like to keep the password protection option on it, which come with the drive.

However, I’m afraid that if I reformat the Hard Drive on the mac I might loose the password protection option.

So any ideas how I could reformat the Drive for Window/Mac (exfat I think) and making sure I can keep the password protection option?

THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP.

Mari.

I HAVE SOLVED MY ISSUE.

The answer is:

  • If it doesn’t mount on the Mac > connect it on PC
  • Get the “mac install files” on the WD Passport
  • Install the files/WD Program on the Mac.
  • Plug your passport on mac
  • Open the program including WD Security + gives Password.
  • In Disk Utility:
Select the Passport drive then Select for the formatting:
“ExFat” > IF YOU HAVE AN ERROR MESSAGE POPPING IN
I think it means you don’t have enought free space on your mac.
Delete some files from your desktop & try again - it should work.

Now you should have:
My Passport in Ex Fat > With the Same Password as before.
TADAA ! You can write/read on PC & MAC.
