can’t format - failure says mediakit says no available storage - how do I resolve?
I’m having the same problem. I have 5 of these drives and have never had a problem. I just bought a new one and first it wouldn’t eject. Then, I got the error that “MediaKit reports not enough space on device for requested operation.” I’m trying to set it up for TimeMachine and it will not format. Anyone have any ideas? I’m tempted to return it immediately, since I’ve never had an issue before like this. Perhaps it’s corrupted from the start?!
Hi,
have the same problem with a 3TB WD Elements and Mac OS High Sierra.
With an older Mac OS Version (El Capitan) fdisk utility app v15 it works.

I have the same problem with 2TB WD Elements and Mac OS High Sierra.
Hope someone knows how to fix it?
I have the same problem - just bought a 2T elements drive. High Sierra OS. Never had a problem before. Please Advise ASAP. Followed all the instructions to the letter. Right now it shows up in disk utility as a greyed out “disk2s1” Every time I try to erase and format it fails and says that there is not enough space on device for requested operation.
Did no one get an answer from WD support since Oct 30th!!!
Believe it or not I found the solution at Seagate: How to format your drive | Support Seagate US
The key was changing the View in Disk Utility.
