I just bought a My Passport SE 1 TB drive. Setup was a breeze for Time Machine. I ran the first backup and it stopped after 14 GB. The transfer rate seemed slow 14 GB - 2 Hours. I ran the firmware upgrader to move from 1.032 to 2.010 to see if transfer rates would be better. The installer froze with the bar about 92% of the way and stayed there for an hour. Rebooting drive now and it is not visible to the Mac any more.
Hopeless, isn’t it. WD are not reliable.
My drive is dead after the firmware update too.
On the firmware download page there is a huge list of instructions, were they there a week or 2 ago?
The firmware is really corrupted.
That is why the drive could not be initialize or recognize.
Have you try update the firmware from a PC computer?
If not, I would suggest you try that.
Re-run the firmware update will usually fix that problem.
