Files show not there, but there

Hi

I need help! I have a WD 2TB external WDBAAF0020HBK that I got for Xmas last year. I connected it to

my PC in March and MOVED all my music, books, pics etc from the pc’s internal HD to the WDBAAF0020HBK.

  1. I created the directories Books, DVDs and Music and MOVED my files into the appropriate directories.

2.The Music directory was just under 500GB, so I created the directories Music J-R, Music S-Z and Soundtracks

and moved all the soundtracks in the Soundtrak directory, J thru R music into the Music J-R directory etc.

  1. I then renamed the original Music directory to Music A-I.

  2. I then removed the drive via Safely Remove Hardware and disconnected it from my computer.

Last week I reconnected the drive to move more files onto it. I reconnected before startup and started my pc.

When I went to the R: drive (WDBAAF0020HBK) everything looked normal.

I started to move more directories/files from the pc’s HD into the Music S-Z directory. All started out normal then the

directories started to dissapear. They moved over and showed, but, as the next directory was moved, the previous directory and all others vanished. I stoped the move and exited the drive and did a reboot. I then went back into the

, clicked on the Music S-Z directory and it the pc just hung there. After about a minute it came back with:

Disk is not formatted

The disk in drive R is not formatted.

Do you want to format now?

 I hit no.

It shows 0kb for the directory size.

Now if I go in I can create a new directory. It will show for about a couple of seconds, then disapear. I tried to add the

directory again and it tells me the directory already exists.

WTF! I’m at a loss here. It shows the the directory is empty, yet it tells me they are there.

I rechecked all directories and the Soundtrack directory shows empty, yet they are there if I try to make a new one.

The rest are OK and readable. Can ANYONE help? I don’t want to lose anymore files or move more onto it an risk

losing them also. HELP!!!

BTW! Im on XP SP3, Core 2 Duo

It sounds like something has got corrupt or lost. Are using thing on mutiple computers? Something you just discovered. Never trust all of your data to just one physical drive internal or external.

NO! Just moved the files to it in March, then unhooked the power and USB cords from the computer after unmounting it and has set in the same spot without being moved at all until I hooked it up again last week.

Since last week was only the second time in 9 months it has been hooked up to this (and no other) computer

I’d say YES I just discovered this!

Just for sh*ts and giggles, I just COPIED a 1GB directory called TMPSHT over to it. It copied over just fine. When

finished, it was there for about 5 seconds then disapeared. I then tried to create a new folder/directory called

TMPSHT and it came back with:

There was an error when creating the file:

      R:\Music S-Z\TMPSHT

Cannot create a file when that file already exisits
