Files getting Deleted

Hello… I have a My Book Essential 3TP HDD connected to my wifi router Linksys EA6500. I have configured this HDD as network storage such a way that i’m able to connect to this HDD from all my laptops, tablets & smart phones connected to my home network. I used to copy files (movies, music, docs, etc.,) from my MAC book Pro & my windows 7 laptop.

My Issue:

I have a strange issue. When i copy a file either from my MAC & Windows laptop into the WD HDD via network i see the files getting saved in the target locations. I some time even disconnect this network drive from my laptop and re-connect it when needed, but for most of the time this HDD is mapped to my laptops as network drive. Some times when my router gets rebooted, i usually get a message that the network drive is not available so pls disconnect the device, and if i do so and re-map this HDD, i see the filed i copied last are deleted. I usually map the network drive under the admin ID and i’m able see the folders have correct permissions.

Can any one pls help me out here?

Regards

vzboy

Hello,

The WD My Book  has not been designed for network use. The issue you are having might be related to this.

WD has a drive that has been designed specially for network use, it is the WD My Book Live.

Hi,

I looked at the Linksys specs for your router and it seems that this should be working. (I understand WD’s reluctance, but the router seems to be designed for exactly this sort of thing.)

Maybe Linksys support could give you some answers since their box is right in the middle of the situation. The USB drive not reconnecting when the router reboots seems a little strange. Maybe that would give Linksys some clues.

Sorry I can’t offer more, but this is a bit outside of my experience.

Thank you for comment mate. Let me get the Linksys guys involved.

I’m wishing you the best in your efforts! I hope Linksys can get a handle on things for you.
