Feelling annoyed! - 7200rpm Advertised - 5400rpm Drives Inside!?

I wondering if someone can help me out here or if WD themselves would like to step in and explain please?

To cut a long story short I’ve been reading up and asking advice on various forums over the past few months about the best set up for Music & Video production. I was advised I should buy an SSD Drive to use only for storing and reading my large sound libraries from and then get a separate 7200rpm drive to use for my current and completed projects.

I therefore chose the WD Thunderbolt Duo as it contains 2 drives which can mirror the data on each or be used as separate drives, where I could essentially back things up myself. I was advised never to use RAID 0 because if 1 drive fails, then the data across the 2 drives will likely be corrupt.

I need the SSD as advised by EW Audio so the speed of reading multiple large sound libraries isn’t limited too much and was advised about using other drives of 7200rpm again for flow of production reasons.

So I bought my WD drive from Amazon.co.uk and while the first one arrived soaked and crushed thanks to Royal Mail, Amazon were really helpful and sent a replacement. The drive I purchased is advertised on Amazon, Maplin and other online stores as containing 7200rpm Drives. However I’ve just switched on the Duo and checked the drives and both are listed in my devices as “Rotational 5400”?

Anyone have any advice?
Thanks in advance!

Hello,

According to the user’s manual page # 22 the Thunderbold Duo is compatible with only WD Green. These drives are only 5400 RPM.

Take a look at the User manual:

Thanks… I see, I asked Amazon where they got their description/specs and they said they are provided by the manufacturer, only reason I chose this one was because it clearly states on the retailers site 7200rpm. So which duo drive is 7200 then? None of them?

Oops, I misread your post.

Sorry what do you mean?

I had offered an opinion, but realized it wasn’t correct after I re-read your post.
