I have a 6 year old Sandisk Extreme SSD 500G that has started having failures like dropping off line, during long copies. It appears to be heat related as putting it in front of a fan will get the copies to work correctly for longer.
So, I contacted WD support to see if this failure mode was covered like the Pro V2 failures that were the subject of numerous class action lawsuits. They said it is not covered and is a different failure mode even though I pointed out their statement that they switched to a new epoxy to solve heat issues on the Pro V2. I asked them if it was the too low temperature solder that was discovered by third party testing sites but denied by WD. They wouldn’t comment.
But, they quickly offered a 20% discount on their website and sent me a statement that the hardware and firmware issues on the Pro V2 had been corrected. So I’m considering using the discount and ordering a Pro V2 model.
Has anyone here tested a Pro V2 that was purchased directly from WD in the past couple of months and can verify that it can do full drive copies repeatedly without running into any heat failures?
