I just bought (Aig 2025) my Sandisk Dual Drive Go USB Type-C 1TB. I use it on my new Macbook Air with Apple M3 Chip and 8 GB Ram. I connect the drive (memory stick) directly into mac’s USB-C port, but it is extremely slow… Took more than 5 minutes to transfer one video of 54 MB… I tried to transfer/copy jpegs… said it wil take 2 days…

Did you figure it out? If not, try these solutions:
Check for Disk Errors: Use the macOS Disk Utility to verify and repair your external drive. Disk errors can slow down the drive, and repairing them often improves speed.
Enable TRIM for SSD: If you’re using an SSD, enabling TRIM can optimize the drive’s performance. This is done through the Terminal with the sudo trimforce enable command.
Check the File System Format: Ensure that the drive is formatted in a macOS-compatible file system (APFS or HFS+). Using exFAT or NTFS may result in slower performance.
Update macOS: Keeping your macOS up to date is essential. Updates often include performance improvements and bug fixes, which could resolve external drive speed issues.
Use a Different USB Port or Cable: Sometimes, the issue lies with the USB port or cable. Switching to a USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt port and using a high-quality cable can help speed up data transfer rates.
Disable Spotlight Indexing: Spotlight indexing can consume system resources and slow down your drive. You can exclude external drives from Spotlight by going to System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy tab.
Check Drive Health: Use third-party software to check the health of your external drive. Drives with bad sectors or low health can perform poorly, and they may need to be replaced.
Free Up Space: If your external drive is close to full, it can become sluggish. Try freeing up space by moving or deleting unnecessary files.
If none of the above works, you may want to back up your data and format the external SSD. This can fix any corruption issues and restore speed. [ Check out this related blog - Slow External SSD and HDD on macOS Ventura ]
