For a WD MyBook 2TB External Drive, Does Updating Firmware or Drivers Erase All Data? I just want to update to the latest versions of Firmware and WD Smartware.
Hi, the firmware should not delete the data, however as is updating the physical part of the drive is recommended to have a backup of the information on the drive.
Thanks. I have not heard back from WD yet. I was hoping no data would be lost from an Update. It does mean I have to find another 2TB drive to backup the backups.
Not really, if you already have the data on another location then you already have a backup of it, in the case the the drive fails after doing the firmware update you can replace it if its under warranty and you transfer the data back to the replacement drive.
