Hello, I have a newbie question. I use My Passport to store music and when I checked properties it showed 465 GB used leaving a little over 120 GB available. My music library is only 21 GB, how do I figure out what is using up the rest, nothing in the various folders adds up to the usage displayed.
Hello,
Can you please post a screenshot of the properties screenā¦
Did you happen to reformat the drive?
Joe
also, what does it look like in disk management.
Hello, I got the exact same porblem, My passport is a 500g, and iāve used 165 Gb of it, Tho the properties and everything tells me that I got 30gb left. Ā I added a picture here at Imageshack. ā My Passport Screenshot ā and if I would reformat it, How do I know itās not gonna happen again, Itās not like I wanna reformat it every month or soā¦
that picture looks like youāre taking the properties of the extras folder.Ā I couldnāt tell.Ā but you should look at the properties of the drive, itself, to know how much space youāve used and got left.
[edit]
sorry, I mis-read your post.Ā when you take the properties of the drive itself what does it tell you?Ā does it show only 30 gbās left?Ā have you looked into the drive to see what is all on there?
Yeah, If I click properties on my Drive, It tells me Used space: 435 gb. Ā Free space 30,6gb. Iāve checked like 10 times, Iāve checked folder by folder. And if I add it on a calculator itās no where near 435gbā¦

what passport do you have? what model number? and make sure that you have your data somewhere else also.
Iām using WD My Passport 0730 USB Device.
that isnāt a model number.Ā there should be a white sticker on the bottom of the drive that gives you the model number.Ā or somewhere on the drive some priniting.

then get your data off it, and return it or replace it. why troubleshoot.
You are using Your External Drive for āWindows Backup and Restoreā that is taking most of space.
To know how much space your backup taking go to ā all control panel ā Backup and restore.
To mange space used for backup click āManage spaceā on Backup and Restore window then change settings and check
the radio button āKeep only the latest system image and minimize space used by backupā
Iām Sure this will help youā¦
Yeah, That was it! Thanks!
