Hi I have a 2 tb external my passport external hard drive it is only a few month old and worked well until the other day when I plugged it in it wants me to format it (which I haven’t done) it say it is corrupt. I installed it and tried to reinstall it but my computer doesn’t show it is there but when I go to my computer it show the hard drive a G not my passport as it did before what can I do and can I retrieve my data
What OS are you using and does the drive show in disk management? Recuva http://www.piriform.com/recuva is a free data recovery program . TestDisk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk might fix it. Or you can try booting from a Linux Live CD.
