Hi, I have a failing hard drive on my HP desktop. HP’s sending me a new drive, and I want to back up the old one before it is installed. I bought a WD external drive for that. Can I clone my existing hard drive to the WD external drive and then copy from that to my new internal drive? And can I use the WD utility to do that? My goal is to avoid having to reinstall windows and all other programs on the current drive. Thanks!
Hello quartet1977,
I wont recommend that since moving the information to one drive and then to another might not work properly.
As a recommendation, backup your files to a new drive and then install the OS on the new drive that you will be receiving from HP.
Or get a powered USB adapter and clone the existing drive to the new one that you will be receiving from HP using the WD Acronis tool.
