The warranty ran out on MyBook essential so I can get no tech help from the co. I recently bought a new power cord, thinking this may have been my problem, its not. My problem is, when I plug everything in, I can hear that the PC sees it, but I cannot find the logo to click get into it. So I find that I need to down the ExternalIcon.zip file. I followed the directions to the letter on restoring Westren Digital Icon to the drive letter (my case E). After I unzipped the folder I double clicked on the ExternalIcon folder. I WAS suppose to find a folder named Autorun and a file named Autorun.inf …there is no folder named Autorun.inf …When I click on the drive letter I find an icon with an autorun folder with a blue arrow pointing down, above that it says files ready to written to the CD. I don’t understand why I have to put it in a drive. When I first got it, the icon would pop up under external drive, like the jump drives do, separate and unto themselves. I have files in there I NEED access to. Can someone please help me. Thank you for your time!!! I am running: Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600) Dell Computer Corporation Dimension 4600i 2.80 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 2558 Megabytes Installed Memory [Hard drive] (80.00 GB)
I tried to respond to you earlier today but the removed my post because I was giving you the phone number to call the coprate office of WD.
If i were you I would call the coprate off of WD and speak to upper management since Tech can not seem to help you. They are much more helpful and are able to solve the problem. if you type in the right thing you will be able to get the number for the coprate office.
Can you see the drive under Device manager under Disk?
Can you see the drive under Disk Manager (My Computer > Right Click Manage > drop to Disk Manager)?
