Hi, there.
I currently have my desktop WD external and my passport external plugged into my MacBook Pro, neither will eject.
I’ve “quit” all apps, relaunched Finder, logged out/back in, etc. Everything the internet currently suggests, but no luck.
I cannot eject either hard drive!
When trying to eject in Finder or drag to the trash I get the, “This disk wasn’t ejected because one or more programs may be using it” pop up.
When I try to eject from the Disk Utility I get the, “Currently in use” pop up.
PLEASE HELP.
Whenever this kind of thing happens, all you need to do is properly shut down the computer completely, and when the computer is totally off you can then remove any attached drives that got “hung” The shut down process ejects the drive properly.
Then boot up computer, and you can use your drive as before.
Thanks for the info but why would anyone buy something that requires restart to disconnect ! I just bought this passport wireless and could not eject either. But if that is the only way to eject then I got screwed! After reading all of the complaints is their anything that works on this piece of equipment? Mine is going back to store, I do not like to buy stuff that is useless. Any suggestions for a good device that works?
All drives work the same and computers do, too. It is not the devices’ fault, it is the USERS that screw up. Maybe you ought to just go back to pencil and paper.
Or, read the darn drive’s instructions – which many people do not do either.
What a dopey question.
OK 27 I now tried to reformat and I did read instructions but if you read thru all the problems with this equip maybe pencil would be better ! But since you are kind enough to respond I am trying to erase and reformat this wonderful equipment and it says something is running but not what and nothing about how to shut it off! Will not unmount?
You have another program that is accessing it (like Win File Explorer) and it won’t let go of drive, so figure out what is keeping drive active, turn it off, and if you can’t do that, then turn off computer it will release the hold and take drive off when PC is off. Reboot PC, and when it is rebooted reattach drive. This is all part of using any computer or drive. Sometimes SH*T happens, and you gotta learn to deal with these very common types of problems
