Cannot connect password-protected Mac Passport; need help

Hello everyone.

I just received an external Passport storage device for my MacBook Pro (2008), running OSX 10.6.8. Upon connecting the drive initially, I was able to successfully download many files onto this device. I also set a device password.

However, upon trying to reconnect the device, the WD Unlock application popped up briefly, only to spontaneously quit within seconds and disconnect the drive, before I can enter the password. This has happened when the drive was connected to both USB ports on the laptop, and when connecting it with a pre-Intel core Mac desktop.

I am able to unlock it on a Asus Netbook running Windows, although I cannot see the drive when it is connected to this computer.

Is there a way to get the drive to connect for long enough to be able to unlock it?

Thank you very much for your time and advice. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

P.S. After transferring the files to the drive. I attempted to eject it, only to be told that the drive was running applications still open on the computer. This was even when all applications except Finder had been closed. I chose to shut the computer down and unplug the drive. I am wondering whether this might have had some effect on the matter.

Hello, I would remove the password from the drive using WD Security and then connecting the drive again to the Mac, once there I would attempt to set the security on the drive and see if the same happens. Also changing USB cables could help if its a connection issue, I don’t think it is because it works on another device, but I would try it.

I am having the same problem. My WD External Drive says it needs the unlock app when I click on the app. This is a new problem and I have tried using different cables and OTGs. Thinking it may be cos my OS is upgraded to Big Sur and I would like to use the time machine.

How to solve this?
