Book Essential- cannot back up properly, cannot retrieve files properly

Hi, greatly appreciate your feedback.

I bought the my book essential about a year ago.  Never get to work properly and had not been able to come back to see what problems are, let alone use it.  In other words, I have not touched it for more than 7 or 8 months.

Now, I am summarising my problems, very frustrating:

1.  A lot of files have not been backed up.

  1. I was trying to retrieve whatever files have been backed up to a destination folder.  It fails.  None of the files have been retrieved.

I am thinking just to erase the whole drive and do back up again.

I want to make sure when I click “setting”, then “drive erase”, it erases the files on my book essential. does it?  It will not touch anything on the drive of my computer.

It is a silly question, but just want to make sure.

You are correct it will only delete the content of the My Book unit.

Does the drive show in Disk Management? If so look down by the bars and does it say anything like Raw or Unallocated?
