Backup for 2 computers running 2 different systems

I have a laptop running Vista and a desktop running Windows 7.  I have done the backup using Smartware (automatic backup).  I can see the data numbers for the individual computers when I am plugged into that specific computer but not when I am plugged into the other computer.

1.  How do I see the data on both computers when it is plugged into one or the other?

2.  If one of the computers crash, can I back the data up to the other computer?  How?

I do not intend to leave the external drive plugged in all the time.  I only intend to do a backup once a week.

Hi there. Access your drive ( Start > Computer > My passport or My Book ) you will see a folder by the name of WD Smartware.swstor, that folder contains the backup you’ve done on the different computers and you can transfer the data from that folder to the computer.-

Thanks Ricardo, but what do I do exactly to transfer it?

Thanks for the answer.  That worked perfectly.  I feel much better about deleting items from my physical laptop and desktop now.

WD does need a bit more of instructions for us novices, doesn’t it?  Just plugging in the USB doesn’t seem to do it.

The easiest way, if you want the instructions.  Plug in the drive.  Open the “Computer” and the drive.  Look for the 75 page instruction “read me” booklet.  I think it was under “extras” but that was 2 days ago and don’t really remember.  But it is there.  Do this before you download the drive.  I think I did steps I didn’t really need to do.  Or made it harder than it was.

Basically what you are going to do is download a driver so that the program comes up.  Then you start the backup.  Easy once you find the driver.

Good luck.

Maria, you’re welcome

Rembrake, what would you like to do now, a backup using Smartware?
