No back up to restore

I got a new PC and am trying to use my WD My Passport external hard drive to move all of the files from my old laptop to the new one. I ran the back up on the old computer and it shows that everything but a few music files were backed up.

The old computer uses WD SmartWare so I installed that on the new one but it doesn’t show any volumes to back up.

I then looked at the WD website and based on that installed WD Backup on the new computer and the software says that there isn’t a backup to restore.

I’m clearly missing something and could use some advice.

I’m going from a PC that runs Windows 8 to one that runs Windows 10.

Hello,

WD Smartware and WD backup are two different softwares.
You cannot retrieve with one what you have backed up with the other.

If you created a backup using WD Smartware then you can access the backup folder inside the Passport called “WDsmartware.swstor”. You can browse this folder and just copy/paste the files to your new computer.
