My Western Digital 6TB Elements Desktop USB 3.0 external hard drive is making a strange noise.
A few months ago the drive began making a strange “froglike” sound at
fairly frequent intervals. Perhaps every 10 or 15 minutes. Sometimes
it doesn’t make the sound for longer.
The drive is only used to backup my PC.
I have run both the short and extended S.M.A.R.T diagnostics from the
Western Digital dashboard and it reported no errors.
I have recorded the sound, but see no way to upload it here.
Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.
UPDATE:
The issue is resolved and my drive is being replaced.
