24bit FLAC - The Beatles Remastered - FUZE does not like 24bit

So I loaded the FLAC files from The Beatles 24bit remaster onto the FUZE and it sees all the songs, but as soon as it starts, it just stops and goes to the next song, until the end of the playlist and it just sits paused at track1 just like it would as if it HAD played all the tunes.

Just to mention, I have played FLACs of all sorts on this player.

Is there a FLAC update coming? Will we never be able to play these files? I am so happy with FLAC, it’s all about quality not quantity, and to grab a 4GB card for $12 is no big deal anyway.

You just need to convert them to 16-bit.

That is the best right now - I was guessing. I wonder if there will be that difference you are “supposed to be able to hear” downconverting from 24 to 16.

I doubt it…CD quality is 16bit. Most people can’t tell the difference between a well-encoded lossy file vs. a FLAC file in blind tests, so I’m sure you wouldn’t notice the difference between 24 and 16 bit FLAC.

The 24 bit remasters have been compared to the 16 bit CD masters and they’re basically identical.  The extra 8 bits just bloats the file size.

Indeed, 24 bit bloats the producers’ wallets quite nicely.  Those original masters sound like they were done on a Wollensak.  24 bits can’t help that.
