Please help.  The plung in where the cord that goes from the computer to the hard drive broke off.  I have taken this to Best Buy to see if they could pull the info and said that the way this particluar hard drive was made, they are not able to pull any info from it.  I am not sure what to do.  My computer crashed and this was the back up to that.  As the computer crashed I put everything on the hard drive then a few days after it broke too. 

I have all pieces including the metal piece that used to be where you plug into.  I am not sure if this is something that someone could solder (I am not sure where to locate someone with soldering capabilities), or if I am able to purchase a matching unit and switch out the boards?  I just want to pull the data even if I have to spend some to do it. 

Any and all advice is very much appreciated as all of my pictures from 2006-2012 and some other important docs are on there.

If this is a ddrive that came with Smartware it will be hardware encoded. You can try having the USB port soldered back on at an electronics place. You can try findind an identical one on Ebay or from an identicla HD.
