Windows XP not see Elements SE

Volumin with WD Element SE, 2 TB is not seen by Windows XP, is it possible change without format disk ?!

I bought a WD Elements SE 2TB last week :grinning:

The reason why it does not work with Windows XP is because the drive is factory formatted/partitioned GPT (GUID Partitation Table) and NTFS

Windows XP (32 Bit) does Not Support GUID Partition Table … (but, it does Support NTFS up to 2TB)

you will have to format/partition it MBR (Master Boot Record)

there are 3rd Party Software that can attempt to convert GPT to MBR … but it is still advised to have a backup of your data in case it does get erased.

If you already has a backup of your data then it is quicker and easier to just re-format/re-partition the drive NTFS and MBR.

Side Note: i’m using Windows 7 and had no problems with the drive “out of the box” … Windows 8,7,10 support GPT.

Side Note II: if in the future you buy a hard drive that is greater than 2TB … you are going to have a LOT of issues with Windows XP recognizing it and using the full capacity. Consider upgrading your OS in the future to prevent these issues.
