Windows 7 will not recognize my WD 500 GB book

I cannot get my computer which is running Windows 7 to recognize my WD 500 GB hardrive.  It does not show up when I open my computer tab, and I have tried to go into device and printers and all it shows is something called a  Initio Default Controller when I plug my WD hardrive into the USB port?  And I tried to go to the WD site for updated drivers for this hardrive but cannot find any?  Help!
