Will a mybook greater than 2tb work on windows 7?

Hi

Hi

WIll a WD mybook of 3tb or 4 tb in size work ok on windows 7 ?

I’m getting conflicting information off google.

I would like an upto date confirmation of the situation.

Could you also advise if :

  1. The drive comes ready formated for use with windows 7 or will It need to be formated by me using GPT/GUID ?

  2. WD support windows 7 users who buy an external drive over 2tb in size with firmwares or further information etc.

  3. Any known issues and is the general advice not to use an external HDD over 2tb with windows or that it’s okay to do so.

thanks

Yes the larger drives do work on Windows 7. If it is a model for Windows it should not need to be reformatted. If the drive was made for Mac it would need to be formatted for Windows.

So could you indicate what the mybook comes pre-formatted in which makes it compatable with windows 7 ? Is it formatted in GPT/GUID - is that why it’s ready to go because i understand that if it’s not windows wont work properly with external hdds >2tb in size…

thanks
