Why does it say it only has 7.35 GB?

I bought an 8GB Sansa Clip+, so why am I only getting 7.35? That’s well over half a gigabyte less than stated. Is there something I’m missing, or is this just blatant false advertising?

You have 8GB worth of NAND, but not all of it is available for user storage. Some is lost to file system overhead, some to NAND translation overhead, some for the device’s firmware, etc.

Also, this. All your other 8GB storage devices are not quite 8GB either.

That is normal. PC hardware or BIOS is viewing it as 8GB but Windows view it lesser than it. It’s been like that for all storage devices. <img src=“https://imagicon.info/cat/5-43/1.gif”/>
