What is the purpose of the twelve pins interface of my WD disk

Hello,

My WD Portable disk being not detected by Windows, I am suspecting a problem with the Sata/USB interface; hence, I am wondering if i could try to access my disk through this 12 pins interface as shown on the picture attached.

So, my basic question is what kind of interface is it ? Could it be used for accessing the disk data ?

WD use it on most of there Portable Drives … it seems to be a “proprietary” connection (well, not ‘consumer standard’)

anyways … the question has been asked before, read here

(there seems to be a way to connect it … but requires some soldering and wiring skills)
